JAY RAYNER'S KITCHEN CABINET

Catherine was invited to attend a recording of Jay Rayner's 'Kitchen Cabinet'  in Rochester.  The panel were keen to sample Hurstwood Farm's English Walnut Oil - made from nuts grown on the farm.

Harvest time is here !

 Our busiest time of year commences, as we start to pick the cobnuts.  We then start the cycle of de-husking, drying, sorting and cleaning, cracking and finally, pressing the nut kernels for oil.

HARVEST TIME

As the cobnuts on the trees are turn from green to golden, preparations are being made for the harvest, which begins towards the end of September. Harvest time is a very labour-intensive period on the farm. Let's hope the sun shines for us.

NUTS IN SHELL FOR CHRISTMAS

Most of our cobnuts are de-husked and then dried, so they can be enjoyed over a longer period than fresh cobnuts. These dried nuts are available in major supermarkets in time for Christmas. 

In order to produce oil from the cobnuts, Mr Dain designed and developed a nut cracking and shelling machine.
